Report reveals Xi Jinping to visit North Korea next week
Moscow (ANTARA) — South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, citing several sources, reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping may visit North Korea as early as next week. ‘We have obtained intelligence indicating that President Xi Jinping will soon visit North Korea,’ a senior South Korean government official told the news agency on Wednesday, 20 May. Xi may attempt to mediate the North Korea–United States relationship, according to the report. Furthermore, it states that during a meeting with Xi in China in January, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung also asked the Chinese leader to help mediate relations between North Korea and South Korea. It is noted in the report that Xi responded positively to this request.
