A series of events in Bali has captured readers’ attention over the past week. First, shocking news from the prosecutorial institution: the Head of the High Prosecutor’s Office (Kajati) in Bali, Chatarina Muliana, has been replaced. This occurred despite her having served in Bali for less than a year.

The rubbish polemic continues to be widely discussed. This time, hundreds of rubbish trucks besieged the Bali Governor’s office demanding a solution to the closure of the Suwung Final Processing Site (TPA) in Denpasar. Ultimately, it was agreed that the Suwung TPA would be opened on a limited basis for organic waste.

Shifting to the antics of foreigners in Bali. A French national assaulted a Denpasar resident at a gym or fitness centre in West Denpasar. The foreigner has been secured, while the victim required hospital treatment.

Still regarding foreign nationals, a Malaysian revealed an unusual reason during a narcotics case trial at the Denpasar District Court. He claimed the ganja he brought to Bali was for worship purposes.

Here is a summary of the most popular news over the past week in the Bali Weekly section of detikBali.

  1. Bali’s Kajati Replaced

A change at the top leadership of the High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati) in Bali has occurred again. Chatarina Muliana has officially been transferred, while Setiawan Budi Cahyono has been appointed as her replacement. This policy is outlined in the Attorney General’s Decree Number 488 of 2026 dated 13 April 2026.

In that decree, 53 strategic officials within the Attorney General’s Office were transferred simultaneously, ranging from heads of high prosecutor’s offices (kajati), directors at the central level, to supervisory and intelligence officials.

In Bali, this rotation has drawn attention due to its relatively short timeframe. Chatarina Muliana, who had only been Kajati Bali since October 2025, has now been moved to the position of Head of the Asset Recovery Centre.

Her tenure of around six months has sparked public interest. Previously, she was expected to uncover various alleged corruption cases on the Island of the Gods.

As her replacement, the Attorney General’s Office has appointed Setiawan Budi Cahyono, who previously served as Director IV in the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence (JAM Intel).

This replacement is part of a major rotation seen not merely as routine transfers, but as a strategic step in the internal reorganisation of the Adhyaksa Corps.

In general, job rotations within the Attorney General’s Office are common in organisational dynamics. However, the quick replacement of Bali’s Kajati remains a point of special attention.

During her tenure, public expectations for Chatarina Muliana were high, particularly regarding the handling of alleged corruption cases in Bali.

Nevertheless, official documents state that the transfers were carried out as part of organisational needs to optimise performance. This means the job shifts are not solely based on individual factors, but on a comprehensive institutional strategy.

Setiawan Budi Cahyono is not a new figure in the Adhyaksa Corps. He is known for his extensive experience in several strategic positions, particularly in intelligence and case handling.

Before being appointed as Kajati Bali, he served as Director IV in JAM Intel, a position crucial for gathering and analysing strategic information related to law enforcement.

His career also includes several other important roles, among them Deputy Head of the High Prosecutor’s Office in East Java, Acting Head of the High Prosecutor’s Office in East Java, and Assistant for General Criminal Affairs at the High Prosecutor’s Office in Banten.

  1. Bali Governor’s Office Besieged by Rubbish Trucks

The limited reopening of the Suwung TPA in Denpasar for organic waste has become a temporary solution to the protracted rubbish problem in Bali. As known, the TPA, Bali’s largest, has been closed since 1 April.

Before that, the site had been closed and reopened multiple times. The Head of the Environment Control Centre (PPLH) for Bali-Nusra, Ni Nyoman Santi, stated that the option of disposing organic waste at Suwung TPA twice a week would greatly facilitate rubbish handling in Bali. This follows a demonstration by hundreds of rubbish truck drivers.

“This is the first key that will indeed greatly facilitate subsequent rubbish handling,” said Santi when met at the PPLH Bali-Nusra office on Thursday (16/4/2026).

Santi also touched on the leachate resulting from organic waste at the TPST. She noted that its handling is currently being restricted.

She appreciated the public who have independently sorted their waste. This is a positive signal that Bali is ready for waste management and handling.

“Every policy implemented will certainly be evaluated, then improved together to find the right formula,” she explained.

The ministry and local government will also discuss the schedule for sending organic waste on specific days to make it orderly. “It’s not difficult; inputs are flowing, all listened to by the government. Real conditions and challenges in the field are all heard,” Santi elaborated.

“Of course, the Governor is coordinating, and the Minister is monitoring,” she added.

Previously, hundreds of rubbish trucks from the SSB Forum crowded the Bali Governor’s Office on Jalan Basuki Rahmat, Renon, Denpasar, on Thursday morning.

detikBali observations at the site showed trucks arriving around 10:32 WITA. The trucks lined up from the western end in front of the Bali DPRD office to the eastern side in front of the Bali-Nusra Environment Control Office.

“There are nearly 300 here,” said one of the protesters.

The crowd at the location consisted of waste transporters protesting the Bali Provincial Government’s policy banning organic waste disposal at Suwung TPA from 1 April 2026. They also carried banners with demands to be conveyed.
