Traffic on Jalan MT Haryono in East Jakarta, towards Cawang, was briefly congested after a lorry struck the TransJakarta Corridor 9 busway barrier. Similar accidents have occurred repeatedly.

Traffic at the scene, heading towards Cawang, was briefly backed up. The lorry was removed on Monday (19 October 2026), with the evacuation completed at 08.45 WIB.

“The evacuation of a lorry that struck the busway barrier on Jl Letjen M.T. Haryono, Cawang, Kramat Jati district, East Jakarta, in front of the Shell petrol station towards Pancoran, has now been completed and traffic has returned to normal,” the Jakarta Metro Police’s Traffic Management Centre (TMC) said on its X account.

Footage posted by the TMC showed two tow trucks at the scene, towing the lorry from both the front and rear.

The crash caused congestion at the location and on the road towards Cawang. The left front of the lorry was badly damaged.

Motorcyclists caught in the congestion

A motorcyclist named Dwi said he was caught in traffic in Cawang for 15 minutes that morning. He was travelling along Jl Mayjen Sutoyo towards Jatinegara at around 08.30 WIB.

“Traffic was really bad at the turn towards MT Haryono. It got even worse when I turned left, towards Cawang,” Dwi said when contacted.

Traffic was also backed up on the route towards PGC. He said queues stretched both towards Cawang and towards Jatinegara.

Motorcycles and cars were at a standstill for around 15 minutes. Traffic had returned to normal by the time he reached Jatinegara.

“It took more than 15 minutes to get to the descent towards Jatinegara,” he said.

9 October

Lorries have struck busway barriers several times. On 9 October, a container lorry hit a barrier on Jl S Parman in Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta. The lorry struck the barrier after swerving to avoid a motorbike travelling on its right.

West Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit enforcement officer AKP Joko said the container lorry had been travelling south from the north. Near Gelong bus stop, it entered the busway. Joko said the driver was avoiding a motorbike travelling alongside it.

“The lorry entered the busway to avoid a motorbike travelling alongside it on its right, in the same direction,” he said.

The driver then lost control, causing the lorry to veer left and hit the busway barrier, damaging it.

29 September

On 29 September, a rubbish lorry struck a busway barrier near Gerbang Pemuda bus stop in Central Jakarta. TransJakarta Corridor 9 services were briefly disrupted.

“The incident happened at around 05.00 WIB, when a rubbish lorry struck the busway barrier,” said Kompol Kharisma Arbita Bangsa, head of the traffic accident section of the Jakarta Metro Police traffic directorate’s law enforcement sub-directorate, on Tuesday (29 September 2026).

He said officers subsequently removed the rubbish lorry and took it to Teluk Gong in North Jakarta.

Following the crash, TransJakarta briefly diverted services on Corridor 9 towards Pluit. Buses heading to Pluit temporarily did not stop at Gerbang Pemuda bus stop until conditions returned to normal.

22 September

A Hino lorry struck a busway barrier on Jl Gatot Subroto, in front of Denpasar bus stop in South Jakarta, on Tuesday (22 September). The single-vehicle accident was caused by a punctured tyre.

The crash occurred at around 05.00 WIB on Tuesday (22 September 2026), on Jl Gatot Subroto heading east, in front of Denpasar bus stop. The lorry, registration number Z-9041-AD, had been travelling from west to east.

“When it reached the scene, in front of Denpasar bus stop, the vehicle is suspected to have suffered a punctured tyre,” Kompol Kharisma Arbita Bangsa, head of the traffic accident section of the Jakarta Metro Police traffic directorate’s law enforcement sub-directorate, said in a statement on Tuesday (22 September 2026).

Pramono’s response

In response to the incident, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung called on everyone to comply with the rules.

“We are continuously monitoring the use of large vehicles and heavy lorries,” Pramono said in Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Monday (19 October).

He said lorry-related accidents could disrupt traffic. He also noted that lorries had become stuck on pedestrian bridges because they were overloaded.

“Sometimes they cause congestion by hitting barriers, or damage pedestrian bridges because they are too tall,” he said.

Pramono urged drivers to obey the rules, saying this was important to prevent further accidents.

“I ask everyone to follow the rules,” he said.
