Repeat Offender: Tian, Murder Suspect Near SMAN 3, Has Been Imprisoned Multiple Times
A man with the initials SR (19), known as Tian, a suspect in the murder of student AA (18) near SMAN 3 Yogyakarta, has been arrested. It has emerged that Tian is a recidivist for a similar case, though he avoided prison for the most recent prior offence. “This Tian has had several final and binding court rulings. Last month, he was involved in the same thing, but he was merely aiding and abetting; at that time, it was resolved through restorative justice, yet he has committed this act again. He is indeed a recidivist,” said Yogyakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head Kompol Riski Adrian following a case reconstruction at the Little Aresha Daycare in Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta, on Tuesday (9/6/2026).
Police stated that Tian is one of four perpetrators on the wanted list. He was arrested for transporting the suspects to Cilacap, Central Java. He is an alumnus of the suspects’ school and is also a member of the same gang as the suspects. “The role of the person in question is that the three suspects we initially arrested did not know the people in Cilacap. The link was this Tian,” Adrian disclosed. “According to Tian’s confession, one of the people in Cilacap had been to Yogyakarta, had hung out in Yogyakarta, and had met Tian, which is how they knew each other. They had once had a face-to-face gathering together,” he added.
As of now, three other suspects are still being pursued by police. Tian himself was successfully captured after repeatedly fleeing from police pursuit. “It turns out this Tian moved residences every three days. When we made the arrest, Tian had only been at his friend’s house for three days. He indeed moved every three days to deceive officers,” Adrian explained.
The case began when AA was found dead near SMAN 3 Yogyakarta on Sunday (17/5). He died from slash wounds after crossing paths with six gang members in the vicinity. In this case, three suspects had previously been arrested by police: LTF (18), also known as Lupek, a resident of Gondokuman, and YSF (18), known as Ucup, a resident of Mlati, Sleman. Another perpetrator is still a minor with the initials F (17), a Sleman resident who acted as the motorbike rider during the incident.
From the examination of the three suspects already captured, it was also revealed that SR prepared the house used to hide the perpetrators. “The person in question prepared the house there. Because he knew the people there, he owned the house and assisted in hiding them,” said Adrian on Monday (1/6). With the arrest of Tian, a total of four suspects have now been captured by police, while three individuals are still being hunted.
