Repair of vandalised streetlights in South Jakarta targeted for completion this week
The South Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency is targeting the repair of 25 Public Street Lighting (PJU) lamps on Jalan Teuku Nyak Arief, Kebayoran Lama District, which were damaged by vandalism, for completion this week. “God willing, we will endeavour to finish this week,” said Head of the South Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency, Rifki Rismal, on Wednesday. He stated that the damage from the act of vandalism on Sunday night resulted in 25 streetlight poles going out and being unable to function normally, leaving the road conditions in the area dark. Furthermore, it is believed the vandalism was carried out by perpetrators who utilised nearby trees to steal the cables. Therefore, tree pruning is necessary to prevent similar incidents from recurring. “However, it is indeed constrained, because we have to park the ladder truck in the busway lane and also carry out tree pruning,” said Rifki. Repairs are being carried out in stages, considering the field conditions which require traffic management and coordination with several related parties. To date, the PJU team from the South Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency has completed network repairs on six spans between poles, allowing 14 lamp points to be restored and switched back on. Rifki stressed that his party is trying to accelerate the work so that the entire lighting network can operate optimally again to support the comfort and safety of road users.
