Repair of Tukad Sanghyang Bridge Accelerated, Denpasar-Gilimanuk Traffic Under Alternating System
Traffic flow on the Denpasar-Gilimanuk national road, specifically at KM 109 in Candikusuma Village, Melaya Subdistrict, Jembrana, Bali, is obstructed due to the repair project on the Tukad Sanghyang Gede Bridge. The bridge is known to be over 50 years old.
I Made Mardita, the Project Implementation Officer (PPK) 1.2 for Bali Province from the Public Works Unit (Satker PJN) Region I Bali, under the East Java-Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (BBPJN), revealed that the repairs were originally scheduled to last one week starting from 24 April 2026. However, the work is expected to be completed sooner.
“Our planned work duration is seven days starting from 24 April. The current condition has already been concreted; we just need to wait for the concrete to cure. We plan to asphalt it on Wednesday and fully open the traffic,” Mardita stated when confirmed by detikBali on Monday (27/4/2026).
According to Mardita, the repairs are being carried out because the bridge’s condition requires serious attention given its age of nearly half a century. Damage to the main structure, particularly the bridge deck plates, is deemed potentially hazardous to road users if not addressed promptly.
“The consideration for repairs is that the bridge’s condition indeed requires handling; it is almost 50 years old. This is to maintain the bridge’s resilience,” he added.
Mardita noted that on-site progress shows positive developments. The work has now entered the final stage after concreting is complete, awaiting the concrete’s curing period before asphalting.
“The repairs are faster than planned. Currently, we are still waiting for the concrete to cure, after which we will immediately asphalt on top so that vehicles can pass normally as soon as possible,” Mardita explained.
If there are no weather-related obstacles, the route is targeted to be fully passable normally within the next two to three days.
In addition to the bridge repairs, the Satker PJN Region I for Bali Province is also repairing the surrounding road. To date, the road asphalting work has covered approximately 600 metres.
“Currently, for the road repairs that have been worked on, it’s only 600 metres,” Mardita emphasised.
During the construction process, an alternating traffic system is still in effect on that route. The public and road users are urged to be patient and comply with the instructions of on-site officers for collective safety.
