Bogor, Kompas.com – A fire in a rented house in Kelurahan Tegallega, Bogor Tengah District, Bogor City, left two people with burns of up to 68 percent and claimed the life of a one-year-old child.

The head of Tegallega sub-district, Hardi Suhardiman, said police suspected the blaze was triggered by the explosion of a three-kilogram gas cylinder used for cooking.

According to Hardi, at the time of the incident the victims were allegedly asleep while cooking, causing the fire to flare up and ignite the blaze.

The fire has been extinguished. The two burn victims are still undergoing intensive care at PMI Bogor Hospital.

Hardi urged the public to increase vigilance against the risk of fires, especially during Ramadan when activity patterns and sleep hours change.

He said that this condition makes some residents more prone to doze off during household activities, including cooking.

Moreover, the Tegallega sub-district is known as a densely populated area, so the fire risk can have a greater impact.

“So if a fire breaks out in a crowded area like this, we have difficulty evacuating and extinguishing the fire,” he said.

Bogor Tengah Police Chief Komisaris Waluyo said the police received reports of the fire shortly before Tarawih prayers.

He said there were three people in one family who were victims of the incident.

“Then there are three victims, one is a one-year-old named Z, and the other two are injured and are currently at PMI Hospital,” Waluyo told reporters in Bogor Tengah on Thursday night.

From on-scene identification at the crime scene (TKP), police suspect the source of the fire originated from a stove that was being used for cooking before the occupants went to sleep.
