Rental Employee Claims to be a General and Assaults Gas Station Attendant
A man claiming to be a general caused a disturbance by assaulting a gas station attendant in Cipinang, East Jakarta. The perpetrator’s actions resulted in him being named a suspect.
The incident, in which the perpetrator assaulted a gas station employee for refusing to fill his vehicle with subsidized fuel due to a mismatch between his license plate and the recorded data, occurred on Monday (February 23rd). Police quickly responded and apprehended the perpetrator, identified as JMH.
“On Tuesday (February 24th), around 4:00 PM, a joint team from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Jakarta Metro Police and the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pulogadung Police Station secured the perpetrator in the Rawalumbu area, East Bekasi. The perpetrator was then taken to the East Jakarta Metro Police for further investigation,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, on Tuesday (February 24th).
Police confirmed that the perpetrator is not a member of the police force. He is a civilian who works as a private employee.
“The perpetrator, JMH, has been secured and confirmed to not be a member of the police force, but a civilian working as a private employee,” said Commissioner Budi.
The perpetrator, JMH, turned out to be a rental employee. During questioning, the perpetrator’s statements were inconsistent, prompting the police to conduct a urine test.
“The perpetrator, JMH (31), has been confirmed to not be a member of the National Police, but a rental employee,” said Alfian.
The urine test results showed that the perpetrator tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana. The perpetrator is currently undergoing police questioning.
“After the urine test, the perpetrator tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana,” he said.
JMH has now been named a suspect and faces a prison sentence.
“That’s right, he has been named a suspect,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, when confirmed on Wednesday (February 25th, 2026).
As a result of his actions, the suspect is charged under Article 466 of the Criminal Code regarding assault, with a maximum prison sentence of 2 years and 6 months or a fine of up to IDR 50 million, and/or Article 471 of the Criminal Code with a maximum prison sentence of 6 months or a fine of up to IDR 10 million.
In this case, the police confiscated CCTV footage and the Vellfire car used by the suspect during the incident.
The perpetrator, JMH, claimed that he pretended to be a general so that his Vellfire car could be filled with Pertalite. The perpetrator is not an official, but a rental employee.
This was revealed during JMH’s interrogation by the Head of the East Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Alfian Nurrizal, which was posted on his Instagram account. Initially, Commissioner Alfian asked about the fake license plate used by the perpetrator on his Toyota Vellfire.
“Why did you use a fake license plate?” Alfian asked, as seen on detikcom’s Instagram account on Wednesday (February 25th, 2026).
“To fill up with Pertalite, sir,” the perpetrator replied.
“Is it right to use a fake license plate?” Alfian asked again.
“Yes, sir, it’s wrong,” the perpetrator replied.
Commissioner Alfian then asked why the perpetrator assaulted the gas station attendant. The perpetrator claimed that he was assaulted first because the victim pulled his shirt.
“I saw that you didn’t pull his shirt, but rather he pulled your shirt,” Alfian said.
Alfian then asked why the perpetrator claimed to be a general at the time. The perpetrator claimed to be a general so that the gas station attendant would fill his car with Pertalite, but did not mention which institution he was from.
“(Claiming to be a general) so that it would be filled (with fuel), sir. I didn’t mention which institution,” the perpetrator said.
