Renovation Programme for Parents of Sekolah Rakyat Students Begins June 2026
The renovation programme is the result of a collaboration between the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) and the Ministry of Housing and Settlements (PKP). “Specifically for Tabanan, what we can assist at the moment is (renovation) of the homes of Sekolah Rakyat parents through collaboration with the PKP Ministry,” said the Deputy Minister of Social Affairs, Agus Jabo, in a written statement on Tuesday, 19 May 2026. He delivered the remarks when receiving a delegation from Baubau Mayor Yusran Fahim and Tabanan Vice Regent I Made Dirga at the Ministry of Social Affairs’ office in Central Jakarta. He confirmed that 31 Sekolah Rakyat parents’ homes in Tabanan have entered the home-improvement programme and noted that the government will prioritise regions judged to be serious in supporting the Sekolah Rakyat programme. “Regions with strong effort must be a priority. Baubau, I think, also represents island areas in Sulawesi where Sekolah Rakyat is still limited,” he said. Agus Jabo explained that the government is currently completing construction of 93 of the total 104 permanent Sekolah Rakyat for phase two. All construction is targeted to be completed by 20 June 2026 to support the intake of new students in July. “If all those who meet the criteria can be admitted, of course we hope all will be built. President Prabowo wants this programme to be fast, the best, and with a large volume,” he added. Previously, Tabanan Deputy Regent I Made Dirga said there are still many residents in his area living in substandard housing and he hoped for support from the central government. “Our people still live in houses that are not fit for habitation. That is why we came here to seek a helping hand from the central government,” said I Made Dirga. Currently in Tabanan Regency there is the Sekolah Rakyat pilot SRMP 17 Tabanan with 74 students located in the Sentra Mahatmiya Bali complex. In addition to discussing home renovations in Tabanan, the meeting also highlighted the acceleration of permanent Sekolah Rakyat construction in Baubau, Southeast Sulawesi. The Baubau City Government is said to have prepared 7.9 hectares of land in Palabusa Village, Lea-Lea District, deemed suitable by the Ministry of Public Works. Baubau Mayor Yusran Fahim said all administrative requirements had been completed so that the construction of Sekolah Rakyat could proceed soon. “In the KemenPU register, there were notes about the certificate, but now they have been separated and are clear,” he explained. Meanwhile, the Joint Secretariat of Sekolah Rakyat Jauhari explained that Baubau has entered the third phase list of permanent Sekolah Rakyat construction and is awaiting further designation from the Social Affairs Minister. “Baubau has entered phase three. All is clear and the criteria have been met,” he concluded. For information, the delegation also included Director General of Social Rehabilitation Supomo, Jauhari of the Joint Secretariat of Sekolah Rakyat,Senior Ministers’ Expert Staff, Special Assistant to Baubau Mayor Ilham Salam, and Head of Protocol of Baubau Muh.
