The government will involve around 3,000 local workers in the programme to renovate 1,000 uninhabitable houses (RTLH) in Siau Tagulandang Biaro Islands Regency (Sitaro), North Sulawesi.

Minister for Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait stated that the implementation of the programme will begin on Wednesday (15/04/2026) as part of accelerating the handling of flood impacts in the region.

Several houses in very concerning conditions will also be rebuilt from the beginning.

“For the aid recipients in Bebali Ward that we visited, not only will they be renovated but built anew because the house conditions are very uninhabitable, such as lacking foundations and roofs that are already leaking,” said Ara.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, conveyed that house surgery or the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme is a form of the state’s presence in improving the quality of life of the community, especially in island and outermost areas.

“President Prabowo not only pays attention to residents in big cities, but also in underdeveloped and outermost areas like Sitaro. This shows the spirit of nationalism and justice that the state is truly present for all Indonesian people,” Tito said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, emphasised that BPS’s involvement aims to ensure that assistance is targeted based on accurate data.

The BSPS programme in Sitaro Regency is expected to improve the quality of community housing while driving local economic growth through the empowerment of local workers. The Sitaro region is known as a border area between Indonesia and the Philippines.

House surgery is a programme of the Ministry of PKP to eradicate the number of uninhabitable houses (RTLH).

Its legal basis is Minister of PKP Regulation Number 10 of 2025 Concerning the Implementation of Housing Construction Assistance and Special Housing Provision.

In Article 71, it is stated that BSPS recipients are individuals who meet the requirements based on verification results.
