Remission for 1,412 prisoners

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: No less than 1,412 convicts received sentence reductions in the province, resulting in 45 gaining an early release.

The sentence reductions were granted in conjunction with Idul Fitri festivities, Antara reported on Tuesday.

Forty-nine prisoners were also granted sentence reductions earlier in December in conjunction with Christmas. Three of them were entitled to be released from jail as a result.

Widiyatno, the provincial coordinator of correctional affairs at the Ministry of Law and Legislation office here, said the sentence reductions ranged between 15 days and two months.

He added that those who were entitled for release had served at least three-quarters of their sentence and had shown good behavior while serving their sentence.(01)
