REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Young entrepreneur Heikal Safar has remembered the figure of the late General (Ret.) Try Sutrisno (90 years old), who passed away on 2 March 2026. According to the secretary general of Propindo, the late figure was a true statesman who must be emulated by all Indonesian people. This is because Try has proven to leave a legacy of fighting spirit, patriotism, and high integrity for the Indonesian nation. According to Heikal, Try’s footsteps have also been recognised and admired by various circles, especially military figures and technocrats. “He was a statesman known as a true soldier who was simple, firm, and dedicated without expectation of reward,” said Heikal. He also has his own assessment of Indonesia’s sixth Vice President as a true fighter with high patriotism. Heikal also quoted the acknowledgment of the National Economic Council (DEN) Chairman General (Ret.) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, who described Try as a great, resilient, honest figure who inherited patriotic attitudes. He also quoted the assessment of the Presidential Special Advisor for Politics and Security General (Ret.) Wiranto, who called Try a figure who never stopped fighting for the nation and country. “Mr (General Ret.) Agum Gumelar remembers Try Sutrisno as a humble, egalitarian, and brave figure. Mr Try was known not to highlight personal interests, modest, and remained dedicated even after retirement,” said Heikal.
