Remember John Kei? The Fate of Hercules' Rival Who Once Rocked Jakarta
John Kei is still alive and has not been released. He is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence after being convicted in a case of premeditated murder and assault that occurred in June 2020. In that case, John Kei was found guilty of the murder of Erwin, a member of the Nus Kei faction, as well as attacks in the Duri Kosambi area of West Jakarta and Green Lake City in Tangerang. The court found him guilty of violating Article 340 of the Criminal Code on premeditated murder and Article 170 on gang assault. In 2023, he was transferred from Nusakambangan Prison to Salemba Prison in Central Jakarta for further investigation related to his group’s conflicts. There has been no recent official information regarding his current detention location or any news of his release. John Kei and Hercules first came under the spotlight after a clash between their groups broke out in the Cengkareng area of West Jakarta in August 2012. The dispute was triggered by a conflict over the control of land owned by PT Sabar Ganda. John Kei’s group arrived at the location, which was being guarded by Hercules’ group, and both sides claimed the right to secure the land, making a clash inevitable. The situation escalated until police deployed a large number of personnel to control the situation and seized various sharp weapons from the scene. Two people were reported dead in the incident.
