Remains of Japanese troops returned
BIAK, Papua: The remains of dozens of Japanese troops who died in World War II in Papua were handed over to representatives of the Japanese government on Thursday.
Biak Numfor deputy regent LS Rumbiak said the handing over of the remains was part of an agreement between the two countries to search for Japanese World War II soldiers in the easternmost province, whether dead or alive.
Under the agreement, Japan is not allowed to recover any remains found.
Attending the ceremony were the Japanese delegation led by Toshio Kashiwakura and officials from the ministries of home affairs and foreign affairs. -- Antara
