Relocation of Nglarang State Primary School Confirmed Cancelled: Key Facts
SDN Nglarang in Tlogoadi Village, Mlati Sub-district, which is affected by the Jogja-Solo toll road, has been confirmed as not proceeding with relocation. This confirmation was announced by Sleman Regent Harda Kiswaya. Here are the key facts.
Difficulty in Finding Replacement Land
Harda explained the reasons for cancelling the relocation after communicating with village officials and relevant agencies regarding the replacement land which has not materialised. Meanwhile, students need to gain certainty so they can study comfortably.
“I asked the village officials to understand this. Alhamdulillah, they can. So we have agreed that SDN Nglarang will not be relocating,” Harda said when contacted by journalists on Thursday (12 March 2026).
Budget Constraints
Beyond the difficulty in securing replacement land, the budget allocation provided is also limited at 3.1 billion rupiah. He stated that the allocated budget is insufficient to reach the building construction phase.
“This (reason for not relocating) comes from the actual situation. The replacement land is problematic and the money is 3.1 billion rupiah. That means the allocation for land and buildings is insufficient,” he explained.
School Will Still Be Reconstructed
Although relocation has been cancelled, Harda ensured that the school will still be reconstructed. This is because several rooms are affected by the toll road and the building is ageing.
“We will hold a meeting soon, then proceed to check how much land remains. After that, the site plan will be discussed. This is a primary school building from the Inpres (Presidential Instruction) era. It’s quite old,” he said.
He continued that the timing of demolition and reconstruction of the school will be discussed further. Whilst awaiting the new school construction process, the toll road contractor will build a temporary school facility.
“We are waiting for that. There was also a task regarding the teaching and learning process. For now, Jasa Marga (toll road operator) will build a temporary school facility,” he concluded.
SDN Nglarang is affected by the Jogja-Solo toll road project Package 2.2. The school was previously planned for relocation. However, as time progressed, the relocation process has not reached a resolution.
