Relocation of Kalideres residents enters second phase due to cemetery development
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakbar) has begun the second phase of relocating residents from Kamal Sub-district and Pegadungan Sub-district in Kalideres District, starting on Monday (30/3). “This second phase is not being carried out all at once. There are still some residents who require further personal approaches. However, for those who are ready, we will relocate them immediately,” said West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah when contacted in Jakarta on Friday. Iin explained that the relocation process to several flats in Jakarta is being carried out with detailed preparations to ensure a conducive transition for the residents. Her side is also using personal approaches, especially for the community and residents with special needs. “We are paying attention to the residents’ needs, from the elderly, children, to those who are ill. For schoolchildren, we are paying attention to their needs and facilitating transport to and from school,” said Iin. In the first phase, a total of 20 family heads (KK) from both sub-districts have already been relocated. Meanwhile, the affected residents total 127 KK in Kamal and 121 KK in Pegadungan. When confirmed separately, Kamal Sub-district Head Edy Sukarya said that there are 16 KK that will be relocated in the second phase. “As for those who have already and are ready to move independently, cooperatively there are 68 KK,” said Edy. Edy said that on Friday, his side had issued the third warning letter (SP 3) to residents still staying as fulfilment of administrative requirements. “Today SP 3 has been given, but only as an administrative requirement. So, after SP 3, the relocation process will still be carried out with a humane approach. Because many have already moved independently and cooperatively,” said Edy. Meanwhile, Pegadungan Sub-district Head Anugerah Susilo has not disclosed the exact number of families that will be relocated again. However, he assured that the second phase of relocation will take place on Monday (30/3). “The second phase relocation will be carried out on 30 March. So, relocating DKI and non-DKI residents to their respective destinations, accommodating the movement of people and household items,” said Anugerah. Previously, a 65-hectare plot of land will be used as the location for a new cemetery following land limitations in Jakarta. The Tegal Alur Public Cemetery (TPU) in Kalideres is the only one in West Jakarta that can still accept new burials. Based on data from the West Jakarta City Parks and Forest Service at the end of September 2025, TPU Tegal Alur still provides 1,314 ready-to-use burial plots. The details are 1,250 ready-to-use plots in the Muslim Block and 64 in the Christian Block.
