Relocated Kramat Jati Traders Exempt from Levies for Six Months

Traders and street vendors selling outside the market area in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, will receive a six-month exemption from retribution fees after being relocated. Kramat Jati Subdistrict Head Kamal Alatas said the traders will be temporarily relocated to a designated assisted location. “For the time being, it will be free of charge for up to six months,” he said in Jakarta on Wednesday (26/8). After six months, the traders will again be subject to retribution in accordance with the regulations. The six-month exemption is expected to allow traders to adapt to the new location and focus on their businesses after the relocation.

Kamal said the number of affected traders totals 193 fish traders. The subdistrict head has communicated with the traders through eight coordinators representing various trader groups, including vegetable, fruit, cake, fish, and other commodity sellers.

The government has assured that the arrangement process will proceed in stages and will not create problems for traders. Head of the Operational Division of Market Region II at Perumda Pasar Jaya, Yohanes Daramonsidi, said the arrangement targets not only fish traders but also 282 other traders. These include vegetable, fruit, cake, and coffee sellers who will be moved to Kramat Jati Market managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya. “A total of 23 traders will occupy open stalls, 136 traders will occupy kiosks, and 123 traders will occupy market stalls,” he said.

Perumda Pasar Jaya is prepared to provide kiosks and market stalls that traders can use within the Kramat Jati Market area.

The East Jakarta City Government has issued a regulation stating that street vendors may no longer trade on road shoulders and pavements along Jalan Raya Bogor, Kramat Jati, starting from 31 August. The decision follows an instruction from the Governor of Jakarta to organise the Jalan Raya Bogor area in Kramat Jati and to relocate street vendors who have been causing traffic congestion around the area. A total of 621 spaces have been prepared to accommodate the affected traders.
