The religious tourism destination of the Jesus Statue on Gollu Poto Hill, West Sumba Regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT), is beginning to see crowds ahead of the Easter celebrations on Friday, 27 March 2026. Located in Soba Wawi Ward, Loli Subdistrict, the site offers natural panoramas from its elevated position, while also serving as a space for spiritual reflection for visitors. From the hilltop, the statue of Jesus with outstretched arms faces towards Waikabubak town, giving the impression of embracing the expanse of green rice fields and residents’ settlements below. In addition to being a pilgrimage site, the area is considered to have potential as an integrated tourism destination due to its relatively close access, about 15 minutes from the town centre. However, amid the increasing visits, several visitors have highlighted the condition of facilities deemed inadequate. Several lopo or gazebos at the location appear to be starting to deteriorate, particularly the roof sections that have rotted. Additionally, wild grass is seen growing in several spots without maintenance. The cleanliness of the area is also considered to still need more attention from the managers. One visitor, Marce Dapa Ambo, described the place as having a peaceful atmosphere suitable for reflection. “This place is peaceful, the view is also very beautiful, suitable for reflection and prayer,” she said. Nevertheless, she hopes for facility improvements to maintain visitor comfort, especially during peak visit times like ahead of Holy Week. “Many lopo are damaged. There should also be toilets. Waste needs to be managed well,” she added. With better arrangement and maintenance, Gollu Poto is seen not only as a place of worship but also with potential to drive local economic growth based on tourism.
