Religious Figures Appointed to Presidential Advisory Council, Including Quraish Shihab and Sinta Nuriyah
President Prabowo Subianto has inaugurated the latest members of the Presidential Advisory Council. The names of renowned scholar M. Quraish Shihab and women’s rights figure Sinta Nuriyah Wahid are included in the council’s membership.
The inauguration took place at the Presidential Palace on Friday (2/10/2026). President Prabowo personally led the ceremony, which commenced with the singing of ‘Indonesia Raya’.
The event proceeded with the reading of the presidential decree regarding the appointment of the officials inaugurated today. M. Qura_ish Shihab and Sinta Nuriyah Wahid have been appointed as members of the Presidential Advisory Council.
M. Quraish Shihab is widely recognised as an Islamic scholar and Qur’anic expert. He previously served as the Minister of Religious Affairs in 1998 and as the Ambassador to Egypt. Meanwhile, Sinta Nuriyah Wahid is known as a prominent female figure and humanitarian activist, active in the defence of women’s rights and interfaith dialogue.
Other religious figures appointed to the Council include the Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Anwar Iskandar, former Chairman of PBNU, Said Aqil Siroj, and former Chairman of PBNU, Yahya Cholil Staquf. President Prabowo also appointed religious figures Philip Kuncoro Wijaya, Budi Tanuwibowo, and Ida Bagus Purwalaksana to the Council. Additionally, Jacky Manuputty and Ignasius Jonan were also appointed as members, though they were not present at the Palace.
The newly appointed members, along with other council members, took their oaths of office according to their respective religions. A total of 26 members of the Presidential Advisory Council were inaugurated.
“That I shall be loyal to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and shall execute all laws and regulations with the utmost integrity in my service to the nation and state. That in performing my official duties, I shall uphold professional ethics and work to the best of my ability with full responsibility,” stated the members during the oath-taking ceremony led by President Prabowo.
