Religious Affairs Minister Wishes Muslims a Happy Eid al-Adha 2026: Strengthen Religious Observances

As Minister of Religious Affairs and also representing the government, we wish a happy Eid al-Adha, 10 Zulhijah 1447 Hijri,” said Minister Nasaruddin Umar in a press conference at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Jakarta, Sunday (17/5/2026).

Nasaruddin appealed to Muslims to strengthen their religious observances, especially sacrificial offerings. He also quoted hadiths about the importance of sacrificial offerings for Muslims who are able.

“We appeal to all Muslims to strengthen their pre-Eid al-Adha religious observances, especially the sunnah fasts. Then also make sacrificial offerings and we urge that those who have the ability to make sacrifices; there are many hadiths about this,” he said.

“In fact, there is a very important one: do not approach my mosque for those who meet the requirements to make a sacrifice but do not carry it out themselves, and we will distribute our offerings in accordance with applicable regulations,” he added.

Previously, the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) officially set the beginning of Zulhijah 1447 Hijri on 18 May 2026. Thus, 10 Zulhijah 1447 H or Eid al-Adha falls on 27 May 2026.

The determination session for 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijri was held at the HM Rasjidi Auditorium, Ministry of Religious Affairs Office, Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, Sunday (17/5/2026). The Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, led the determination session.

“Thus, based on the results of calculations and reports regarding the new moon, it was agreed that the date of 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijri falls on Monday, 18 May 2026. And therefore Eid al-Adha on 10 Zulhijah 1447 Hijri falls on Wednesday, 27 May 2026,” said the Minister.
