Jakarta (ANTARA) - Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar stated that the teaching and learning process for madrasah students in disaster-affected regions of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra has resumed at 100 per cent.

"Our commitment is clear — education must not stop because of disasters. Based on data as of 11 February 2026, we can confirm that 100 per cent of madrasah students are continuing their studies. Some 90.5 per cent of students have returned to normal learning at their original madrasahs, whilst the remainder are attending through shift systems, in emergency tents, or at host institutions," said the Minister in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The statement was delivered during a Coordination Meeting with the Government's Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction at the House of Representatives building in Jakarta.

The Minister detailed significant achievements in the recovery of educational facilities and houses of worship. Of the 773 affected madrasahs, 651 units or 84 per cent have resumed operations.

A similar performance was recorded in the pesantren sector, where 883 pesantren (75 per cent) out of 1,173 affected institutions have returned to activity.

"The recovery of spiritual life is also a priority. We report that 97 per cent of houses of worship, or 1,553 units out of a total of 1,593 affected houses of worship, have now been successfully restored to use by communities," said the Minister.

He added that the success of the recovery effort was the result of hard work by Ministry of Religious Affairs volunteer teams on the ground, who carried out responsive disaster management mobilisation, ranging from the construction of emergency classrooms to immediate assistance for managers of houses of worship.

To accelerate comprehensive reconstruction, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has proposed budgetary support through the Presidential Directive Special Output Detail instrument worth Rp702.98 billion, sourced from Pure Rupiah funds.

The budget is planned for the rehabilitation of remaining madrasah buildings, pesantren, and houses of worship that sustained moderate to severe damage, including relocation plans for disaster-prone sites.

"We want to ensure that every rupiah allocated through this Presidential Directive truly reaches the community, so that the heartbeat of social and educational life in Sumatra returns to normal," he said.
