Religious Affairs Minister Praises Jakarta for Successfully Maintaining Interfaith Harmony
JAKARTA - The Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Menag RI) expressed appreciation for the city of Jakarta, which has successfully ranked second among the safest cities in Southeast Asia and maintained harmony among religious communities.
The appreciation was conveyed by Nasaruddin Umar in the presence of Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung during the attendance at the 219th Anniversary Celebration of the Archdiocese of Jakarta at the Cathedral Church on Saturday morning (9/5/2026).
One proof of harmony in Indonesia is the establishment of the Silaturahmi Tunnel connecting the Istiqlal Mosque and the Cathedral Church.
To continue maintaining harmony in this country, he wants every place of worship to become a house of humanity.
Thus, places of worship are not only intended for one group of believers but also for others from various religions.
In that way, he believes places of worship can become venues for resolving all humanitarian issues.
