The 44th Riau Province Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) officially began today. The annual event was opened by Religious Affairs Minister Prof Nasaruddin Umar, marked by a ta’aruf parade in Kuantan Singingi Regency (Kuansing).

Also in attendance were Riau Governor SF Hariyanto, Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan, Kuansing Regent Suhardiman Amby, Commander of the 01/Wira Bima Military Resort Brigadier General Agustatius Sitepu, and other regents and mayors from across Riau Province.

This year’s 44th Riau Province MTQ is centred in Kuantan Singingi Regency. With thousands of participants, the event is scheduled to run until 3 July 2026. The presence of the Riau Police Chief and his senior officers amidst the large crowd and dignitaries underscored the police institution’s commitment to fully supporting religious and cultural activities in Bumi Lancang Kuning, while ensuring the entire event proceeds safely.

In his address, Kuansing Regent Suhardiman Amby expressed his honour and pride at the trust placed in the regency to host the 44th Riau Province MTQ. “This trust motivates us to provide the best service and welcome all guests with the sense of family and hospitality of the Kuantan Singingi community,” he stated on Saturday (27/6/2026).

Suhardiman noted that the ta’aruf parade was not merely an opening ceremony for a competition, but a symbol of unity, togetherness, and Islamic brotherhood woven tightly among the people of Riau Province. “Through this parade, we can witness the diversity of regions, cultures, and potential possessed by each regency and city, yet united by a single goal: to make the Qur’an a guide for life and a source of inspiration in building a religious, progressive, and morally upright society,” he added.

The Regent also called on all elements of society to be good hosts by maintaining order, security, and cleanliness for the comfort of the visiting contingents. “Through this 44th MTQ, we hope to produce qari and qariah, hafiz and hafizah, mufassir, and a young generation who can become role models in practising the values of the Qur’an in community life,” he concluded.
