The home of Azis Suraji’s family in Pancoran Mas, Depok, West Java, became the target of terror by their neighbour, ultimately forcing the family to sell their property. The neighbour’s harassment went viral on social media after CCTV footage circulated showing a man throwing a helmet at the family’s house. Before throwing the helmet, the man was seen pacing back and forth on a motorbike in front of the victim’s gate. On a different day, the same man was seen dumping rubbish at the victim’s house. Several residents tried to intervene, but a commotion ensued.

Novita (29), Suraji’s daughter, recounted the origins of the conflict, explaining there was a misunderstanding involving the perpetrator. The misunderstanding began when her mother joked with her husband, who is a foreign national, to stop a child from crying. The perpetrator took offence at the phrase ‘orang gila’ (crazy person) used in jest. ‘He was apparently hurt by my mother’s words, even though no one in my family ever insulted him during the incident,’ Novita stated.

The family began to be disturbed by various acts of terror, starting with the perpetrator blasting loud music while the family was holding a religious recitation in 2025. Novita expressed regret over moving to the area, describing a feeling of culture shock. The harassment escalated to physical damage when the perpetrator kicked and damaged their fence on Wednesday (15/7). The family had also previously been threatened with a machete during the Eid holiday and faced almost daily verbal abuse.

Due to the constant disruption to their comfort, the family has decided to sell the house. A previous offer to swap homes fell through once the prospective party learned about the troublesome neighbour. The family has since filed a police report, registered under number LP/B/1531/VII/2026/SPKT/POLRES METRO DEPOK. Police have confirmed they are investigating the case, examining witnesses, and processing the crime scene to ensure a sense of security for the community.
