There is a new tourist spot on Lake Batur in the district of Kintamani, Bangli. It is called Batur Aqua Ride. The attraction, which opened a month ago, offers a relaxed water-biking activity on Lake Batur.

“We have water bikes for single (capacity of one person) and tandem water bikes (capacity of two people),” said Aristya Dewi, a ticket officer at Batur Aqua Ride, when interviewed by detikBali at Lake Batur on Sunday, 8 March 2026. detikBali visited Batur Aqua Ride at 11:00 WITA. Dozens of visitors were already pedalling their water bikes several hundred metres from the jetty of the attraction.

Some ride solo, others in groups, and some bring their partners on tandem water bikes. From time to time, they pause to enjoy the views of Mount Batur and Mount Abang, taking selfies.

“Earlier today there was a long queue. Visitors queued for about an hour,” said Aristya.

At 13:00 WITA, it was detikBali’s turn to try the water bike on the lake. The water bike is not the duck-shaped pedal boat commonly seen at some lakes in Java. It resembles a pedal bicycle but uses two thick rubber floats extended like a surfboard with a pointed front.

The one-person water bike is sea-blue. The tandem water bike is pink. There is a propeller connected to the pedals at the rear underside of the bike.

The controls work the same way as a regular bicycle. However, the water bike has no brakes. To stop or reverse, the rider simply pedals backwards.

The pedals on the tandem water bike work the same as well. However, the pedals and the fins under the water can be moved independently, like two bicycles joined into one.

“Turn left or right, the handlebars are steered at a 45-degree angle. If you want to reverse, just pedal backwards,” Aristya explained.

Pedalling a water bike on Lake Batur isn’t particularly difficult. The wind, however, can blow quite strongly at times, requiring riders to put in extra effort to steer.

Riders may be gently pushed to the left by gusts from the west or from the direction of Mount Batur to Mount Abang. Yet that is part of the fun of water-biking on Lake Batur. “Don’t panic, stay calm. No need to rush. This is a leisure bike,” Aristya urged.

Aristya said Batur Aqua Ride provides four tandem water bikes and 15 single-rider water bikes. All visitors must wear a life jacket provided at the ticket booth before selecting a bike.

Ticket prices differ for local visitors and foreigners. Local or Indonesian visitors pay Rp 100,000 per person for a one-hour session. Visitors may also request a guide for an additional Rp 10,000. The guide accompanies and documents using the visitor’s own device.

“If guests are foreign, ticket price is Rp 550,000 plus Rp 10,000 if they use a guide. All visitors receive free mineral water and a locker at the ticket booth,” Aristya explained.

Batur Aqua Ride is open every day except Nyepi. It opens from 08:00 WITA to 16:00 WITA. On Nyepi eve (Pengerupukan), it closes at 15:00 WITA.

“Visitors are strictly prohibited from eating, drinking, and smoking while riding the water bikes on the lake. That’s part of our standard operating procedures,” Aristya said.

“Visitors will also be prohibited from riding the water bikes during heavy rain and must wait until the rain subsides,” she added.

Eni and Agung Putra, two visitors from Denpasar, said it was their first time riding water bikes at Batur Aqua Ride. Eni admitted she was a bit nervous because she rarely rides water bikes on a lake.

“I got a bit nervous earlier. Not because of the wind, but because I rarely ride water bikes on a lake,” Eni said.

Agung felt the same. He often visits Lake Batur, so he wasn’t too nervous when riding at Batur Aqua Ride.

“I learned about Batur Aqua Ride from TikTok. But the wind was rather strong today, so I just rode with the wind,” said Agung.
