Rekosistem strengthens circular economy ecosystem through points scheme and factory partnerships

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Rekosistem platform is strengthening the circular economy ecosystem through a points incentive scheme for the public and partnerships with dozens of recycling factories. “One point is equivalent to one rupiah. This serves as an incentive for people to sort waste at home,” said Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder of Rekosistem, Joshua Valentino, during the opening of a waste station at Blok M MRT Station in Jakarta on Friday. Joshua explained that the implemented system allows the public to exchange sorted waste for points that can be converted into economic value. In addition, Rekosistem has collaborated with around 20 to 30 recycling factories to ensure that the collected waste can be processed into industrial raw materials. “Our role is to ensure the waste is sorted according to specifications so it can enter the recycling process at the factories,” he stated. As public participation increases, the volume of waste managed has also risen. Previously around 1-2 tonnes per month, it has now increased to an average of 3-5 tonnes per month at several locations. Therefore, from the partners’ perspective, a representative from MR.DIY stated that this scheme aligns with the company’s efforts to promote sustainable business practices, including waste management and strengthening the recycling ecosystem. “This collaboration is not just about the environment, but also about creating sustainable economic and social impacts,” said Chief Financial Officer of MR.DIY Indonesia, Rika Juniaty Tanzil. Meanwhile, Pandawara Group views the incentive-based approach as an effective strategy to increase public awareness. “If there is economic value, people will be more motivated to sort waste. This is a good step to encourage behavioural change,” said Co-Founder of Pandawara Group, Muchamad Ikhsan Destian. Rekosistem also considers the presence of other processing technologies like waste-to-energy not as a threat, but as a complement in the national waste management system, particularly for handling non-recyclable residues. The types of waste accepted by Rekosistem include used cooking oil, plastic bottles, soft plastics, hard plastics, used electronics, metals, glass, paper, and cardboard. Each type of waste is valued at 100 to 6,000 points, which can be exchanged for digital money.
