Rejecting Provocative Actions, PP SEMMI Urges Public to Prioritise Peaceful Democracy

The Central Board of the Indonesian Muslim Students Union (PP SEMMI) has responded to the increasingly heated political and democratic dynamics in the country. They firmly urged all elements of the nation to avoid any form of provocation that could divide unity.

The stance was conveyed directly by PP SEMMI Chairman Zulhadi Ariza. He outlined several points of the organisation’s position regarding the current situation.

“First, the Central Board of the Indonesian Muslim Students Union invites all elements of society to practise democracy by always prioritising polite and peaceful dialogue, and let us prove that democratic maturity in Indonesia is upheld through constitutional and dignified means,” said Zulhadi during a press conference on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.

On the second point, Zulhadi acknowledged that expressing opinions in public is a constitutional right guaranteed by law. However, he reminded the public of the importance of maintaining moral ethics.

“However, this right must be exercised while adhering to the applicable legal corridors, maintaining public order, and respecting the nation’s moral ethics for the common good and the upholding of state sovereignty,” he said.

On the third point, PP SEMMI called on youth and the wider public to safeguard the dignity and symbols of state sovereignty. This continued into the fourth point, where they strongly condemned acts of anarchism in the expression of opinions.

“Fourth, the Central Board of the Indonesian Muslim Students Union firmly rejects all forms of opinion expression activities that have the potential to violate legal provisions, disrupt the activities of the wider public, or damage public facilities that are the nation’s collective assets,” he asserted.

Specifically, PP SEMMI also highlighted the planned demonstration by the Pati United Community Alliance (AMPB) at the DPR building on 27 August. They assessed that the movement is vulnerable to infiltration by provocation and does not fully represent the concerns of the public.

“Therefore, the Central Board of the Indonesian Muslim Students Union rejects the AMPB’s call for action in front of the DPR building scheduled for 27 August 2026 if it lacks legitimacy representing the Indonesian nation in upholding the moral ethics of democracy, as it is prone to provocation and has the potential to divide national unity and integrity,” said Zulhadi.
