Rejected as Justice Collaborator, Sony Sonjaya Vows to Reveal Big Names in MBG Corruption Trial

The former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sony Sonjaya, has confirmed that he will proceed to reveal the parties allegedly involved in the suspected corruption regarding the management of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Programme for the 2025-2026 period, despite his application for justice collaborator (JC) status being rejected by the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung).

This stance was conveyed by Sony Sonjaya’s legal team after investigators from the Attorney General’s Office’s Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) rejected the JC application previously submitted by his client.

Sony Sonjaya’s lawyer, Krisna Muritt, expressed regret over the decision. However, he emphasised that the rejection of the JC status will not prevent his client from exposing the facts known to him regarding the case.

“Yes, certainly, (he is prepared to reveal everything) during the trial,” he told reporters on Wednesday, 24 June 2026.

According to Krisna, Sony will also coordinate with his legal team today to determine the next legal steps. Meanwhile, his team is still awaiting a follow-up on the protection request submitted to the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).

With protection from the LPSK, he stated, Sony will feel more secure in revealing the parties suspected of playing significant roles in the case, even without the justice collaborator status.

“Therefore, we are now asking to urge the LPSK to be objective in assessing this case and to promptly grant the JC status to Mr Sony as mandated by law, so that Mr Sony has the protection and peace of mind to reveal the significant roles played by the officials involved,” he said.

It was previously reported that the hopes of the former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency, Sony Sonjaya, to receive special treatment as a justice collaborator in the alleged corruption case of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Programme had failed.

The Attorney General’s Office confirmed that the application was rejected after investigators deemed Sony an unsuitable candidate for such status. In the latest developments of the investigation, the Attorney General’s Office views Sony as one of the key figures in the case being investigated.

Investigators stated that his role was not at the lower levels, but rather included a party with significant responsibility in the process that is now alleged to have caused losses to state finances.
