Rejected as Justice Collaborator, Sony Sonjaya Vows to Reveal Big Names in MBG Corruption Trial

Former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sony Sonjaya, has confirmed he will still reveal parties allegedly involved in the suspected corruption case concerning the governance of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG) for the 2025-2026 period, even though his application for justice collaborator (JC) status was rejected by the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung). This stance was conveyed by Sony Sonjaya’s legal team after investigators from the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the Kejagung rejected the JC application previously submitted by their client. Sony Sonjaya’s lawyer, Krisna Murti, expressed regret over the decision. However, he stressed that the JC rejection would not prevent his client from exposing the facts he knows in the case. “Yes, certainly, certainly (ready to reveal all in court),” he told reporters on Wednesday, 24 June 2026. According to Krisna, Sony will also coordinate with the legal team today to determine the next legal steps. On the other hand, his party is still awaiting follow-up on the protection request that has been submitted to the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK). With protection from the LPSK, he said, Sony will be more at ease to reveal parties suspected of having major roles in the case, even though justice collaborator status was not granted. “That is why we are now urging the LPSK to be objective in assessing this case, to immediately grant JC status to Mr Soni as mandated by law so that Mr Soni has protection and peace of mind to reveal the major roles of the officials involved,” he said. It was previously reported that the hope of former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sony Sonjaya, to receive special treatment as a justice collaborator (JC) in the alleged corruption case of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG) has been dashed. The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) confirmed the application was rejected after investigators assessed that Sony was not a figure worthy of obtaining such status. In the latest development of the investigation, the Kejagung instead views Sony as one of the key figures in the case being pursued. Investigators stated his role is not at the lower layer, but rather he is among those who bear significant responsibility in the process now suspected of causing state financial losses.
