The delegation of Regent Muhammad Fikri Thobari of Rejang Lebong, Bengkulu Province, and associates caught in a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) operation arrived at the KPK’s Red and White Building in South Jakarta on Tuesday morning (10 March).

Regent Fikri and several other individuals were transported by KPK investigators from Soekarno-Hatta Airport in approximately six vehicles.

According to monitoring by CNNIndonesia.com, those apprehended were brought down through the rear lobby of the building, preventing media personnel from obtaining statements from those involved. They arrived at approximately 09.07 Western Indonesia Standard Time. Regent Fikri and the others will undergo further questioning.

The KPK conducted the operation in Bengkulu beginning Monday evening (9 March). Several office spaces within the Rejang Lebong Regency Government premises have been sealed. Undisclosed quantities of cash were confiscated by the KPK during the covert operation.

“Several individuals were secured and brought to Jakarta this morning for further questioning. One of them is the Regent of Rejang Lebong,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo when confirmed via written message on Tuesday morning (10 March).

The antigraft agency has 24 hours from the operation to determine the legal status of those apprehended.
