Rejang Lebong ranks 24th nationally in Safe Food District Programme

This synergy is expected to protect the public from the potential dangers of products that fail to meet applicable standards and regulations.

Rejang Lebong, Bengkulu (ANTARA) — The Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) in Rejang Lebong Regency has stated that its working area has been ranked 24th nationally in the Safe Food District programme.

“Based on the provisional results of the national-level evaluation, Rejang Lebong Regency ranked 24th out of approximately 500 districts and cities in Indonesia,” said Bambang Hermanto, Head of BPOM’s UPT in Rejang Lebong, speaking on Tuesday.

He explained that the achievement reflects a shared understanding between the central government, through BPOM, and regional governments in safeguarding drug and food supervision.

“This synergy is expected to protect the public from the potential dangers of products that fail to meet applicable standards and regulations,” said Bambang.

To strengthen health oversight, his office has proposed that the Rejang Lebong Regency Government issue specific regulations on the use of prescription-only medicines.

“We request the regency government’s support to issue a Regent’s Circular on antimicrobial resistance control or the prudent use of antibiotics. This is an important part of efforts to protect public health,” he said.

In addition, Bambang noted that BPOM’s Strategic Plan (Renstra) for 2025–2029 contains several national priority programmes, one of which is the Safe Food Village programme, which aims to extend the reach of supervision down to the village level.

“BPOM hopes that these ongoing priority programmes will continue to receive full support from the Rejang Lebong Regency Government and the relevant regional apparatus organisations (OPD),” said Bambang.
