Jakarta — In an increasingly open and interconnected world, the question of how a nation preserves the direction of its values has become increasingly important.

Young Indonesians today grow up in an environment vastly different from previous generations. Information moves rapidly through digital spaces, global culture presents itself in various forms, and public discourse frequently takes place without spatial or temporal boundaries.

In such circumstances, the strengthening of national values is no longer merely a ceremonial agenda, but rather a strategic necessity to ensure that future generations possess a clear foundation for understanding their national identity.

Education plays a central role in this process. Universities are tasked not only with producing graduates who excel academically, but also with cultivating individuals of strong character and national commitment.

Knowledge and skills are indeed important, but without a solid foundation of values, intellectual advancement does not necessarily proceed in tandem with social responsibility.

Based on this awareness, Binawan University, in collaboration with Commission XI of the Indonesian Parliament, organised a socialisation programme on the Four Pillars of the Indonesian Parliament, attended by approximately 150 secondary and vocational school students and educators from the Greater Jakarta region at Binawan University’s Auditorium.

This initiative was designed as an educational space for young Indonesians to develop a deeper understanding of the values of Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika as the foundations of national and state life.

This activity was not merely a presentation of material, but rather a dialogue space that brought students together with fundamental ideas about national life.

In this process, young Indonesians were encouraged to recognise that national values are not merely normative concepts to be memorised, but rather principles of life that must be translated into concrete action.

The four pillars of national life essentially form a moral and constitutional compass for Indonesia’s journey.

Pancasila serves as the foundational value that guides collective life in a diverse society.

The 1945 Constitution provides the constitutional framework that ensures state life operates according to the principles of democracy and justice.

The Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia affirms the commitment to preserve territorial integrity and national unity.

Meanwhile, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika serves as a reminder that diversity is a strength to be nurtured, not a source of division.

These values ultimately need to be translated into efforts to realise an Indonesia that is more just, more civilised and humane, more prosperous, more advanced, and more robust.

Within a broader framework, these values also serve as the foundation for Indonesia to play a role in championing justice and peace in the world.
