Rehabilitation of Critical Land: 250 Hectares in Bandung Planted with Breadfruit

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG – As many as 2,500 breadfruit trees will be planted on critical land located at the experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture Unpad (SPLPP) in Arjasari, Bandung Regency, on Saturday (2/5/2026). The tree planting is in collaboration with the Family of Alumni of the Faculty of Agriculture as part of expanding the breadfruit population in West Java while also serving as a sustainable food source.

Unpad Rector Prof Arief Kartasasmita, through Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Unpad Ahmad Choibar, stated that the movement to plant 2,500 breadfruit trees is part of the revitalisation of critical land in the Arjasari area, Bandung Regency. At the same time, he mentioned expanding the breadfruit population in West Java and increasing education on its utilisation as a sustainable food source.

“The planting of breadfruit in the Arjasari area of Bandung Regency is expected to become an effective model for land revitalisation, especially in areas vulnerable to degradation and environmental disasters,” he said on Friday (1/5/2026).

He explained that the breadfruit planting movement in Arjasari is a follow-up to the national breadfruit seminar held in August 2025 at the Unpad campus. Ahmad said the seminar results emphasised the development of breadfruit as a strategic commodity for food security and environmental conservation.
