Jakarta (ANTARA) — Early prevention of hypertension and stroke to minimise cardiovascular disease in Indonesia can be undertaken by individuals at home using accurate and comfortable blood pressure monitoring devices.

The Chair of the Indonesian Society of Hypertension (InaSH), Dr. Eka Harmeiwaty, said that correct and accurate blood pressure measurement is crucial for diagnosing hypertension, and self-monitoring at home is strongly encouraged to monitor treatment outcomes.

‘Salah satu komplikasi yang sering ditemukan dengan hipertensi adalah gangguan irama jantung Fibrilasi Atrium (Atrial Fibrilation/AF). Pasien hipertensi dengan AF berisiko tinggi untuk terkena stroke dan gagal jantung. Dengan demikian deteksi AF pada pasien hipertensi penting untuk dilakukan,’ kata Eka dalam keterangan pers yang diterima di Jakarta, Kamis.

She noted that hypertension often has no symptoms, but its impact can be very serious, including complications such as stroke, heart disease, kidney failure, blindness, and dementia.

This underscores the importance of early detection of hypertension and regular health monitoring, including blood pressure, from a young age.

Beyond health risks, stroke also carries a very large economic impact. Hospitalisation costs, rehabilitation, medications, and potential productivity losses can be a heavy financial burden for Indonesian families, especially when compared with the average income of Indonesian society.

In other words, prevention is always easier than bearing the consequences of treatment. Eka urged the use of blood pressure measuring devices that are clinically validated and re-calibratable as a simple, practical and essential step for people to monitor their health consistently.

The EZ Series is designed for users who prioritise the basic functions of a blood pressure monitor with trusted quality, yet at an affordable price. It is suitable for younger generations and young professionals who are starting to build healthy habits early, a step that is becoming increasingly relevant amid rising health issues among the productive age group.

Meanwhile, the IQ Series is designed for users who require more advanced features, particularly the elderly or individuals who are more health-conscious. This series is equipped with a larger display, making the readings easier to read.

‘Through the EZ & IQ blood pressure monitors, we aim to provide ease for Indonesians to monitor blood pressure accurately, quickly, and comfortably from home. In addition, the series is eco-saving because it is 1.5 times more efficient than the previous series, making it environmentally friendly and energy-saving,’ said Tomoaki Watanabe, Director of OMRON Healthcare Indonesia.
