Registration Opens for 2026 Green Industry Award, Three Categories Ready to Be Recognised
The Ministry of Industry is focusing on accelerating the transformation of the national manufacturing sector towards a competitive, efficient and sustainable industry through the application of green industry principles. This step is an important part of efforts to build an increasingly resilient national industrial structure while being able to respond to the challenges of climate change, resource limitations and global trade dynamics.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasised that the application of green industry is not solely related to fulfilling environmental aspects, but is also a long-term business and investment strategy to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of national industry.
“Transformation towards green industry is a necessity. Industries that are able to use resources more efficiently, reduce emissions and waste, and implement sustainable production processes will have increasingly strong competitiveness. Therefore, the application of green industry must be positioned as an investment to maintain the sustainability of national industry in the long term,” said the Minister in his statement in Jakarta on Friday (28/8).
According to Agus, global market developments are increasingly placing sustainability aspects as an important factor in trade and investment. Therefore, national industry needs to continue improving its readiness to meet these demands while capitalising on market opportunities that are increasingly open for products produced through sustainable production processes.
“We want Indonesian industry to be not only competitive in terms of price and quality, but also superior in sustainability aspects. With green industry, we can improve production efficiency while strengthening the position of Indonesian manufactured products in the global supply chain,” he said.
As a form of government appreciation for the business community’s commitment to implementing green industry principles, the Ministry of Industry is again organising the 2026 Green Industry Award. The programme is a form of recognition for industrial companies that have carried out production practices prioritising efficiency and effectiveness in the sustainable use of resources.
Since it was first held in 2010 until 2025, the Green Industry Award has recognised more than 1,100 industrial companies from various manufacturing sectors deemed successful in implementing green industry principles.
“We appreciate companies that have demonstrated commitment and made real investments to carry out increasingly efficient and environmentally friendly production processes. We hope that these good practices will be more widely adopted so that green industry transformation takes place massively across all industrial sectors,” said the Minister.
Head of the Industrial Services Standardisation and Policy Agency (BSKJI) Emmy Suryandari explained that the 2026 Green Industry Award is given in three categories covering industrial companies and regional governments.
The first category is Best Performance in Green Industry Implementation, intended for industrial companies that already hold a Green Industry Certificate. The second category, Transformation Towards Green Industry, is intended for industrial companies that do not yet have a Green Industry Standard but have undertaken transformation efforts through the application of resource efficiency and effectiveness in their production processes.
Meanwhile, the third category is Regional Government with Best Green Industry Implementation, awarded to regional governments that demonstrate commitment to strengthening green industry implementation through policy and institutional support.
“Through these three categories, we aim to provide appreciation while expanding the green industry implementation ecosystem. Green industry transformation requires the involvement of industrial companies as well as support from regional governments so that implementation can be stronger and more evenly distributed,” said Emmy.
Emmy also stated that registration for the 2026 Green Industry Award has been open since 23 July until 9 September 2026 through the National Industrial Information System (SIINas). The assessment process and determination of winners is planned to be carried out in September 2026.
“We invite industrial companies that meet the criteria to take advantage of this opportunity and participate in the 2026 Green Industry Award. Industry participation is very important to demonstrate that Indonesia’s manufacturing sector has a strong commitment to resource efficiency and sustainability,” said the Head of BSKJI.
Through the organisation of the 2026 Green Industry Award, the Ministry of Industry hopes that more industrial companies will integrate economic, environmental and social aspects in running their business activities. Resource optimisation and long-term orientation in production processes are expected to strengthen industrial resilience while improving the competitiveness of Indonesian manufactured products in both domestic and global markets.
