REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is preparing a scholarship programme for 150,000 teachers throughout Indonesia in 2026 to pursue diploma four (D4) or bachelor’s (S1) education. This programme forms part of the government’s efforts to improve the qualifications and welfare of educators.

Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti stated that the assistance provided amounts to Rp3 million per semester for each teacher participating in the programme.

“We announce that in 2026, Kemendikdasmen is allocating scholarship assistance for teachers pursuing D4 or S1 programmes at Rp3 million per semester for 150,000 teachers across Indonesia,” said Abdul Mu’ti in Manado on Tuesday.

He explained that registration for the programme has opened and slots are still available as the prepared quota has not been fully filled.

According to Abdul Mu’ti, this programme offers significant opportunities for teachers to enhance their academic qualifications, which will impact their professional competencies.

Additionally, teachers who have completed D4 or S1 education can proceed to the Teacher Professional Education Programme (PPG) as one of the requirements for obtaining certification.

By participating in PPG and passing certification, teachers are expected to receive certification allowances, which have long been an indicator of improved welfare.

“This is part of the President’s commitment to enhancing the welfare and qualifications of teachers throughout Indonesia,” Abdul Mu’ti remarked.

The programme is also expected to address the need to improve national education quality through strengthening the capacity of teachers as the frontline of the learning process.

At the local level, the government continues to conduct data collection and mapping of teacher needs who have the potential to participate in the programme.
