Registration for observers extended

JAKARTA: Independent observers for the July 5 presidential election still have time to register with the General Elections Commission (KPU) because the commission has extended the registration period.

In a statement made available to The Jakarta Post on Monday, the commission said it had decided to move the deadline from May 28 to June 15 at 4 p.m. "The extension is aimed at giving more time to foreign and local observers who haven't signed up yet," it said.

To date, 26 local independent observers and eight foreign monitoring teams have registered with the KPU. Registration opened on April 30. -- JP
