Registration for Hoegeng Awards 2026 Officially Closed
The registration period for the Hoegeng Awards 2026 has officially closed today. Over nearly three months of open registration, detikcom received thousands of nominations for police officers from the public across various regions in Indonesia.
The Hoegeng Awards 2026 marks the fifth year of detikcom’s collaboration with Indonesian National Police Headquarters to identify exemplary police officers. The nomination period for candidates for the Hoegeng Awards 2026 exemplary police opened on Tuesday (27/1/2026).
During the registration period, detikcom received diverse nominations for police candidates, varying in rank and position, assignment locations, and contributions made. Various stories emerged from these nominations, ranging from tales of police officers who voluntarily teach in schools or Islamic boarding schools, police handling sexual violence cases, extraordinary dedication by police in remote areas, to simple and anti-corruption police officers.
The nominated police candidates will then be curated and matched with their dedication to the five established categories of the Hoegeng Awards: Innovative Police, Dedicated Police, Integrity Police, Police Protector of Women and Children, and Border/Remote Area Police.
detikcom will also verify all information regarding the Hoegeng Awards 2026 candidates. Coverage of the Hoegeng Awards 2026 candidates selected according to the registration deadline will continue to be published in the coming days.
Following that, the names of police officers that have been reported will enter the selection process by the Hoegeng Awards 2026 Expert Council. The Expert Council meeting will determine the Hoegeng Awards 2026 recipients based on various considerations.
About the Hoegeng Awards 2026
The Hoegeng Awards programme is inspired by the belief of Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo that there are still many Indonesian National Police members who possess the exemplary spirit like the late former Police Chief General (Retired) Hoegeng Iman Santoso. General Hoegeng is a legend of an honest police officer in the country. His name is renowned in the satirical joke delivered by the late 4th President of Indonesia, Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur.
Quoted from the book by Muhammad Zikra titled ‘Laughing with Gus Dur: The Humour of the Indonesian Kiai’, the satire goes: “There are only three good police officers. The late Pak Hoegeng, former Police Chief, the police statue, and the sleeping police.”
Former US Minister of Research and Technology Hikam explained that Gus Dur delivered this humour in various different contexts. However, he said, the essence of the humour is a form of criticism towards the Indonesian National Police during the Gus Dur era.
Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo does not hesitate to use that satire for self-criticism of the institution he leads. General Sigit stated that he does not hesitate to punish his subordinates who violate rules, but also prepares appreciation for performing personnel who work well to nurture and protect the public. That statement so far has proven not to be mere empty words.
In 2025, General Sigit praised the organisation of the Hoegeng Awards. General Sigit also did not hesitate to admit that he must emulate the award-winning police officers.
General Sigit said that if he were included in the Hoegeng Awards, he is confident he would not pass. Because, according to him, the 2025 Hoegeng Awards recipients are truly extraordinary.
“Perhaps if I were entered into the Hoegeng Awards competition, honestly, I definitely would not pass,” said General Sigit at the Hoegeng Awards 2025 grand finale night at the Mutiara Auditorium STIK-PTIK Polri, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (16/7/2025).
“Because whatever it is, they are extraordinary,” he continued.
General Sigit admitted he is not ashamed to emulate his subordinates. He said he must emulate the integrity of the 2025 Hoegeng Awards recipients.
“And I am not ashamed even though they are my subordinates, but regarding integrity issues, I might also have to emulate you,” he added.
