Tarakan, North Kalimantan — Herman, a member of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) in Tarakan, stated on Monday his full support for the development of the creative industry in North Kalimantan Province, including the music sub-sector driven independently by the youth.

This support was conveyed by Herman after attending the ‘Rock on the Street Volume 4’ event, organised by the North Kalimantan musicians’ community, specifically in Tarakan City, on Sunday (17/5). According to him, the event demonstrates the immense potential of the younger generation in North Kalimantan to create independent and creative spaces for expression.

“Collective movements such as this show that the youth of North Kalimantan possess great potential and are independent in creating spaces for expression,” he said.

Herman believes that positive and productive creative activities can serve as a bulwark for the younger generation, protecting them from drug abuse and other forms of juvenile delinquency. “When creative spaces are widely opened, their energy is channelled into things that build character and the regional creative economy,” he added.

He further noted that the development of the creative industry requires not only support from the DPD RI but also the involvement of local and central governments. “Of course, creative industry activities like this are supported not only by the DPD RI but also by local and central governments,” he remarked.

Herman stated that the presence of regulations and supporting facilities from the government is a crucial factor in ensuring that the creative industry ecosystem in North Kalimantan can develop sustainably. “Moving forward, government regulations and facilities must be more present to ensure that the creative ecosystem in North Kalimantan can grow sustainably, rather than being merely seasonal,” he concluded.
