The Commander of Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih, Major General TNI Febriel Buyung Sikumbang, stated that the Central Papua Regional Military Command, headquartered in Nabire, is scheduled to be inaugurated on 5 October 2026, coinciding with the 81st Anniversary of the TNI.

“The Central Papua Regional Military Command will oversee the military area command (korem), military district commands (kodim), and other units located within the Central Papua Province, and is scheduled to be inaugurated during the 81st TNI Anniversary,” Febriel said in Jayapura on Sunday.

According to him, the Central Papua Regional Military Command will include Korem 173/Praja Vira Braja (PVB) along with the military district commands situated within the Central Papua region.

These districts include Kodim 1705/Nabire, Kodim 1703/Deiyai, Kodim 1718/Intan Jaya, Kodim 1714/Puncak Jaya, Kodim 1717/Puncak, and Kodim 1710/Mimika.

Febriel noted that in addition to the formation of the Central Papua Regional Military Command, the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) will also establish two Territorial Development Battalions (Yon TP) and one Territorial Development Infantry Brigade (Brigif TP) within the region, which will remain under the jurisdiction of Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih.

The formation of these new units is being undertaken because the two Yon TP and one Brigif TP currently located in the Central Papua region will be integrated into the new regional command’s structure.

The Regional Commander stated that various preparations for the establishment of the Central Papua Regional Military Command and the territorial development units within the Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih area are ongoing.

He added that the presence of the Territorial Development Battalions is already providing tangible benefits to the community, as soldiers assist in handling various incidents, including fires and forest and land fires.

“The community is beginning to feel the presence of the Territorial Development Battalions, which are ready to assist the surrounding population,” said Febriel.
