Regional legislators meet
BATAM: Representatives of regional legislative councils (DPRDs) began a national conference here on Wednesday to discuss the central government's plan to revise autonomy laws.
The three-day meeting, organized by the Association of All- Indonesian DPRDs (Adeksi), planned to discuss issues relating to the planned revision, particularly the chapters on revenue- sharing allocations for the regions.
The central government has said it would propose revisions to the regional autonomy law, which analysts said is not clear and needs implementation guidelines. The planned revisions have been dubbed a factor that has delayed the required guidelines.
Adeksi secretary general Taba Iskandar said the conference would also discuss the future vision of the organization and its programs for next year.
"In the future, the DPRDs' function and roles will be very important as the problems are more complicated. Therefore, it's needed to improve the quality of human resources," he said. -- Antara
