Villages Minister Yandri Susanto signaled approval for the meeting following a proposal from North Nias District Head Amizaro Waruwu during a coordination meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday.

“I think this proposal is noteworthy, reflecting regions’ aspirations. We will make an effort to facilitate their meeting with Mr. President,” he told the media after the event.

Susanto noted that while the timing remains at the President’s discretion, leaders should prepare clear recommendations. The minister believes the forum will allow leaders to directly brief the head of state on local conditions.

The minister confirmed that many regions still lack access to electricity, internet, and education.

“Residents in such regions must walk an average of two kilometers to reach schools. The same applies to commercial centers or markets, which are typically located about nine kilometers away,” he said.

Director General Samsul Widodo added that 30 regions remain disadvantaged under the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan.

These areas include districts in North Sumatra and East Nusa Tenggara, with the remainder “located in Papua, scattered across West Papua, Southwest Papua, South Papua, Highland Papua, and Central Papua provinces,” he elaborated.
