The Ministry of Home Affairs will hold the Regional Kalimantan Outstanding Local Government Awards in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Thursday (3/9).

This event is organised as a form of recognition for local governments that have successfully implemented various programmes related to the basic needs of the community. The Institute of Home Affairs Governance (IPDN) has been appointed as the organiser for the Kalimantan regional event.

IPDN Rector Halilul Khairi stated that there are four categories being assessed in these awards: the implementation of the 3-million-house programme, access to and quality of healthcare services, access to education services, and waste management and environmental sustainability.

Speaking on CNN Indonesia’s Prime News programme recently, Halilul emphasised the importance of these four categories. “Education and health are vital, as both are fundamental services. Furthermore, waste management is essential for building a proper civilisation, while housing remains one of the basic necessities alongside food and clothing,” said Halilul.

He added that, in addition to being basic public needs, these four areas are also presidential priorities. Consequently, their achievement must be driven by all local governments in accordance with their respective authorities.

He continued by noting that the Ministry of Home Affairs serves as the mentor and supervisor of local governments. Therefore, the success of local governments is part of the Ministry’s responsibility, highlighting the Ministry’s strategic role.

“The Minister of Home Affairs does not only focus on supervision through sanctions; the Minister also wishes for the Ministry to provide recognition through awards,” he said.

Halilul noted that similar events are being held across six regional areas this year. IPDN has been tasked with the Kalimantan region, following similar ceremonies previously held for the Java-Bali and Sumatra regions.
