Regional Government Acknowledges Effectiveness of Home Affairs Minister's Circular on Disaster-Affected Regions' TKD, Aceh Tamiang Regent: Thank You Medan
Aceh Tamiang Regent Irjen Pol. (Purn.) Armia Pahmi has expressed appreciation to the Head of the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (Satgas PRR) for Sumatra, Tito Karnavian, for initiating an inter-regional financial assistance scheme to accelerate recovery in areas affected by the major floods in Sumatra in November 2025. The appreciation was conveyed by Armia during a visit to the Medan Mayor’s Office and a meeting with Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas on Thursday, 9 July 2026.
“On behalf of the people and Government of Aceh Tamiang Regency, we extend our highest gratitude to the Home Affairs Minister as the Head of the PRR Task Force (Tito Karnavian). The initiation of this inter-regional financial assistance scheme is a solution that strengthens national solidarity to accelerate post-disaster recovery,” said Armia.
The distribution of aid is a follow-up to the Home Affairs Minister’s Letter Number 900.1.1/4277/SJ dated 21 May 2026, which directed regional governments to utilise a portion of the additional Regional Transfer Funds (TKD) to assist other disaster-affected regions. Through this scheme, regional governments that were not affected are encouraged to provide fiscal support to regions undergoing rehabilitation and reconstruction.
Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian assessed that this financial assistance can strengthen fraternal bonds in disaster management. “All of this is to show solidarity between regions in helping disaster-affected areas. This could be a model for the future,” said Tito, who also serves as Head of the PRR Task Force.
The Medan City Government is one of the regions that has followed up on the policy. In addition to allocating financial assistance of Rp 50 billion to Aceh Tamiang, Medan had earlier shown solidarity during the emergency response period by sending fire engines and heavy equipment to help accelerate the handling of the flood’s impact.
For this commitment, Armia also expressed his appreciation to the Medan City Government. According to him, the support provided not only accelerated the recovery process but also served as tangible proof of the spirit of mutual cooperation between regions in facing disasters. Armia noted that Medan City provided support in two forms simultaneously. During the emergency response period, the Medan City Government sent fire engines and heavy equipment to help accelerate the clean-up of flood-affected areas in Aceh Tamiang. Entering the rehabilitation phase, Medan again provided support through financial assistance of Rp 50 billion as part of the inter-regional financial assistance scheme initiated by the PRR Task Force. “The Home Affairs Minister’s policy was welcomed with extraordinary sincerity by the Medan Mayor,” said Armia.
Regarding the assistance of fire engines and heavy equipment, Armia assessed that the action was able to accelerate the cleaning of mud, flood debris, and the restoration of access to residential areas. “It greatly eased the burden on the community in restoring infrastructure and the residential environment after the flood,” he said.
Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas stated that the assistance was provided on the basis of humanity and brotherhood. “When we heard about the condition of Aceh Tamiang needing emergency assistance, we immediately sent fire engines and heavy equipment. We are not looking for awards or reciprocity. This is purely about humanity and friendship,” said Rico.
