Regional Council Member Allegedly Used Position as a Weapon to Intimidate Dr Icha

A young doctor named Dr Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenomi, known as Dr Icha, suffered severe depression after receiving intimidation allegedly perpetrated by a member of the North Central Timor (TTU) Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The intimidation occurred whilst Dr Icha was treating a patient suffering from a snakebite at Leona Kefamenanu Hospital; the three alleged perpetrators were relatives of the patient. Dr Icha is believed to have died by suicide on Friday (26/6/2026) at her parents’ home in the RSS Baumata Housing Complex, Kupang Regency, NTT. The deceased had been receiving treatment at Leona Hospital for a week following the intimidation incident. The victim’s younger sibling, Dr Tiara, recounted the form of intimidation carried out by the council member based on the story experienced by the victim. The three alleged perpetrators, consisting of two men and one woman, verbally intimidated Dr Icha. Whilst Dr Icha was treating the patient, the three suspects uttered words deemed arbitrary by leveraging their positions as DPRD members. “For the first statement, they stated that ‘you don’t know who I am. I have a position, I have a role, I am capable of removing your position so that you can no longer be a doctor,’” Dr Tiara revealed on the Apa Kabar Indonesia Pagi programme on tvOne on Monday (29/6/2026). With full arrogance, the individual pointed at the victim’s face whilst mentioning his position and threatening to revoke Dr Icha’s status as a doctor. Meanwhile, the female individual confidently challenged the victim and flaunted the influence of her position to summon journalists. “This female individual immediately and boldly stated, ‘Call the journalists, call the journalists, you don’t know who I am. Take note of my name,’ and the intimidation also involved pointing directly at my sister’s eyes,” she said, mimicking the individual’s words.
