Regional Autonomy Day strengthens government's commitment to the community
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Mayor of South Jakarta Administration, Muhammad Anwar, stated that the commemoration of Regional Autonomy Day serves as a momentum to strengthen the commitment of government apparatus in delivering tangible benefits to the community.
“Regional autonomy is the primary instrument in accelerating development equity, strengthening public services, and enhancing societal welfare,” said Anwar during the ceremony for the 30th Regional Autonomy Day in 2026 at the Mayor’s Office courtyard in Jakarta on Monday.
Anwar acted as the ceremony inspector while reading the message from the Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Tito Karnavian.
This year’s Regional Autonomy Day theme is “With Regional Autonomy, We Realise Asta Cita,” which reflects the independence and responsibility of regions in managing local potential through synergy between the central and regional governments.
He added that synchronisation between the central and regional governments is the key to successful national development.
This can be achieved through six strategic steps, namely the integration of planning and budgeting, results-based bureaucratic reform, strengthening fiscal independence, inter-regional collaboration, improving basic services and poverty alleviation, as well as enhancing regional stability and resilience.
Therefore, Anwar invited all ranks in the South Jakarta City Government to harmonise the eight derivative strategic steps of Asta Cita at the local level.
These steps include realising food and energy self-sufficiency, integrated water resource management, transparent and corruption-free governance, and developing local entrepreneurship.
In addition, improving the quality of education, including fulfilling the nutrition of students through the free nutritious meal programme, equitable health services such as stunting handling, and bureaucratic reform to facilitate public services, are also primary concerns.
Anwar stated that the implementation of government activities must still be guided by the principles of thrift and efficiency in accordance with the President’s directives.
“May the spirit of regional autonomy continue to be a driving force in realising the nation’s progress,” he said.
