Regent threatens karaoke bars

PALANGKARAYA, Central Kalimantan: Kotawaringin Timur Regent Didik Salmijardi has threatened to burn down karaoke bars which continued operations without permits, Antara reported yesterday.

"If there are any karaoke bars open in Sampit, please report them to me and I will burn them down," he said Monday.

Didik was responding to reports that 12 bars were operating without permits. The bars were closed down last month for violating several regulations, including operating as prostitution dens.

Didik was formerly the chief of the 1016 Palangka Raya military command. (swe)
