Makassar (ANTARA) — The Regent of East Luwu, South Sulawesi, Irwan Bachri Syam, has announced that the Ministry of Social Affairs has approved the People’s School construction programme for 2026.
Speaking in Makassar on Tuesday, Regent Irwan Bachri Syam stated that the East Luwu Regency Government is committed to accelerating the construction of the People’s School this year.
“The proposal for the construction of a People’s School in East Luwu has been approved by the Ministry of Social Affairs and has entered the third phase. God willing, construction will be carried out in East Luwu this year,” said Regent Irwan following a meeting with Social Affairs Minister Syaifullah Yusuf in Jakarta.
Also present at the meeting with Minister Syaifullah Yusuf were the Regent of Sigi (Central Sulawesi) Mohamad Rizal Intjenae, the Regent of Gorontalo Sofyan Puhi, and the Mayor of Padang (West Sumatra) Fadly Amran.
“Hopefully this People’s School will greatly benefit the people of East Luwu and the surrounding areas, as this is a flagship programme of President Prabowo Subianto,” said Regent Irwan.
Meanwhile, Social Affairs Minister Syaifullah Yusuf welcomed the initiative positively and reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to supporting community empowerment-based programmes.
The People’s School programme is designed to provide free, quality education whilst equipping young people with practical skills, so they have better employment opportunities and can improve their families’ standard of living.
The construction plan is expected to be realised in every region by 2026, involving multiple stakeholders including local governments, social institutions, and the private sector.
