Regent says Transjakarta will ease mobility for island residents

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Kepulauan Seribu Regent Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan has stated that the presence of PT Transjakarta, which will replace the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency in providing sea transport services from mainland Jakarta to the islands in 2027, will facilitate the mobility of local residents. “Easier access to transportation will have a direct impact on residents’ mobility, especially in obtaining healthcare, education, and supporting economic activities,” Fadjar said in Jakarta on Monday. He explained that Transjakarta’s presence in Jakarta’s waters represents the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s attention towards the people of Kepulauan Seribu. “This transport integration reflects a sense of justice,” Fadjar stated. Meanwhile, Kepulauan Seribu District Council member Munawar Salagang said the inter-island transport integration is a service the community has long awaited. He proposed that residents’ traditional boats could be synergised with the transport system to be managed by Transjakarta and function as a JakLingko concept. He noted that the existence of traditional boats remains necessary, especially during tourist surges in holiday periods. In such conditions, passenger numbers can reach thousands, which would not be optimally served by relying solely on official vessels. “As an analogy, Transjakarta is the large bus, traditional boats are the angkot or JakLingko, and private speedboats are the premium service, so that services to residents and tourists remain evenly fulfilled,” Munawar said. Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated his desire for transport to the Seribu Islands to be managed by Transjakarta due to the significant public trust in the municipally-owned enterprise. According to him, Transjakarta’s current performance is very good, evidenced by its management of nearly 10,000 buses and an increase in user numbers. “This shows that the people of Jakarta now trust Transjakarta. Based on that, I finally decided that transport from, say, mainland Jakarta to the Kepulauan Seribu will be managed by Transjakarta,” Pramono revealed in North Jakarta on Monday.
