Regent Satria Threatens to Deport Unruly Tourists in Nusa Penida
Klungkung Regent I Made Satria has expressed his desire to expel unruly tourists from Nusa Penida, particularly those who cause disturbances, frequently break rules, and disregard public order. He confirmed this intention will be realised once he succeeds in transforming Nusa Penida into a high-quality tourism area. Satria stated that only by achieving quality tourism, underpinned by adequate infrastructure and governance systems, can the region be selective in receiving visitors.
‘Once we are able to make Nusa Penida a quality tourism area, we will certainly be very selective in accepting tourists who come,’ Satria told journalists in Nusa Penida on Tuesday (14/7/2026). ‘Of course, naughty tourists will be deported immediately. Coincidentally, we already have an Immigration Office in Klungkung. It will be very easy for us to do that,’ he continued.
Satria further explained the steps he has planned to realise Nusa Penida as a quality tourist destination. One key initiative is to establish Nusa Penida as a green island and a green tourism destination. ‘We want tourism in Klungkung to be quality tourism. Not the shoddy kind we have now. For that, our step is to make Nusa Penida a green island and green tourism by 2030,’ Satria explained.
This process has begun with the promotion of electric vehicle usage, the construction of supporting infrastructure, the digitalisation of public services, and waste management based on a circular economy. ‘If everything is running, our tourism is already quality, we will certainly be more selective. Tourists allowed to enter Nusa Penida will of course only be quality tourists,’ he concluded.
