Regent rejects new BPN chief

TANGERANG: Regent Ismet Iskandar rejected the appointment of the regency's new chief of the National Land Agency (BPN), Roli Irawan, who was sworn in last Tuesday.

Ismet said on Saturday that the swearing in was against Law No. 22/1999 on regional autonomy and Government Regulation No. 6/1988 on coordination among regional state offices.

"The inauguration was officiated by Banten province's BPN chief Arief Setua Budi Canny, while, according to the law, it should be done by the head of the regency administration where the regional state offices are located," he remarked.

Ismet said that he received an invitation to the inauguration, but refused to come. -- JP
